Urgent Action Needed for Permanent Repeal of the Medicare Therapy Cap

Dear OT Professionals;

Right now, Congressional committees and leadership are negotiating a permanent fix to the Medicare Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR), but have not plan to permanently fix the cap on outpatient therapy services. Both of these policies expire in less than 3 weeks on March 31st, but only one is being fully addressed.

Congress worked out a bi-partisan agreement to reform and repeal the therapy cap the last time they were considering a permanent fix to the SGR. We must urge Congress to include this compromise language in any bill that fixes the SGR. The therapy cap cannot be left on the cutting room floor. This is the chance to get rid of the cap for good.

We need your help immediately! Lawmakers will be drafting language in the coming days and unless Congress feels pressure from you, their constituents and occupational therapy practitioners, they will take the easy way out and leave the threat of the cap in place for the foreseeable future.

SGR and the therapy cap have been patched together year by year for 16 years and now they must be permanently fixed together.Contact your Senators and Member of Congress to tell them the therapy cap reform must be included!

Sincerely,

Tim Casey

AOTA, Director of Federal Affairs
